Different Views
p.45 is the vision of Jessica Darrow and Tricia Tunstall. The two were old friends who worked together in a former life as employees of The Body Shop Skin and Hair Care Company where they were both impressed by the business ethics of the founder, Anita Roddick. Although they lived and worked in different cities, they met up often and shopped each other to death. The two women dreamt of starting their own business and promised each other that they would break away from the corporate world and turn themselves into entrepreneurs. In January 1997 Tricia and Jessica quit their jobs, moved to Chicago and wrote a business plan. On October 19, 1997 the doors of p.45 were open, Tricia and Jessica had realized their vision. We have grown from being a pioneer boutique in the developing artists enclave of Wicker Park and matured into being one of the defining innovative creative fashion resources in Chicago. In March of 2004 one of the founding partners, Jessica Darrow, left p.45 to pursue her personal goals in non-profit work. The other founding partner, Tricia Tunstall, used this change as an opportunity to challenge p.45 to redefine its place in the Chicago fashion community. So, what will change? Look for a fresh crop of emerging designers, look for p.45 in the press and, be sure not to miss all the exciting events at p.45 and on p45.com.
p.45 is a womenメs clothing boutique in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Our space is intimate and inspiring and the people that work and shop here make p.45 a great place to enjoy the pursuit of fashion. We carry innovative collections from young fashion designers, original pieces of jewelry made mostly by local designers, unique shoes and accessories that compliment all of the beautiful pieces in our store.
We opened our boutique seven years ago with a specific mission in mind. We wanted to develop a market for the young designers who were creating styles and collections not currently seen or worn in Chicago. We were excited to work with art students, smaller New York and Los Angeles designers and ideally to inspire young Chicago design students to launch their collections with p.45. We have been lucky enough to find an incredible community of artists to work with, and our clients in Chicago have made these designers welcome.
The one constant between all of our designers varied styles is that they are all creating pieces that are not part of the mainstream. The only trend that is followed at p.45 is that of beautiful clothes for women who appreciate the artistry of their wardrobe. We offer styles that are sexy, styles that are sleek and elegant, styles that are young and flirty and styles that are sophisticated and intelligent.

CS Interiors,
Spring,
2008 says ...
"The A Team," writes CS editor-in-chief Meghan
McEwen.
After a three-week renovation hiatus, revered
boutique p.45 re-opened as a space transformed.
Gone is the signature rubber flooring, giving way
to pewter-stain sugar maple and a reconfigured
layout that makes the space look twice as big. An
authentic arbiter of style (remember, p.45 was a
Bucktown pioneer!), owner Tricia Tunstall put
together the ultimate design collab. With Michael
Koehler leading the design-build charge, his vision
was complemented by interior designer Jordana
Joseph and fashion designer Shane Gabier, who
designed the dressing room curtains-beautiful
swaths of color-block fabric that hang like a
Mondrian art installation. Against a backdrop of
eco-friendly grass wallpaper, Koehler's extra-
long, uber-sleek cash wrap-so bright and white it
nearly glows-is a showstopper in its simplicity
and form. "We wanted to let the personality of the
clothes come through," says Tunstall. The clothes
definitely pop, but design this good is impossible
to ignore. |

Lucky,
November,
2007 says ...
Special shopping report on Chicago says this
Midwest metropolis is emerging as a serious
contender for the title of Great American
Shopping City.
"To mark its 10th year in business, this Bucktown
fixture is planning a renovation to lend its
industrial interior a dose of organic warmth. In
addition to a physical transformation, it's pushing
to bring in new labels: Established indies Ya-Ya
and Lyell are joined by rising names Lorun and
Marlova," writes editor Gigi Guerra. |

InStyle Magazine,
September,
2007 says ...
InStyle's "Sexy Coast to Coast Style" article
features p.45 as one of the city's hot shops. It's
not just the Windy City; it's the Indie City. Here,
women are comfortable in their own skin and
dress to please themselves, filtering fashion with
an eye for what's unique, personal or
vintage. "When trends come out," says Tricia
Tunstall, co-founder of p.45 in the Wicker Park
neighborhood, "we pick the ones that work for
us." A clear winner; high-waist trousers for chilly
nights that dress up well with patent-leather
belts, statement jewelry and envelope clutches-
"beautiful and smart," Tunstall says.
The pioneer and anchor of the trendy Wicker Park
boutique scene stays fresh by introducing new
designers. Reported by Gretchen Wahl. |
